Restaurateur Kevin Aoki has traveled the world while opening and developing numerous restaurant concepts, immersing himself in local cuisine, culture, and people along the way. With 1938 Indochine, he brings that spirit of discovery to Kaka‘ako, inspired by the vibrant street culture and flavors of Southeast Asia.
Spanning more than 6,000 square feet, the restaurant transports guests to another era with antiques and treasures personally hand-selected by Kevin and shipped to Hawaii. Antique motorbikes, vintage furnishings, marble, fountains, birdcages, and flowing red silk curtains create an atmosphere that is exotic, immersive, and timeless.
Outside, the expansive lanai welcomes cigar enthusiasts with a curated cigar menu, cocktails, and a relaxed setting for lingering with friends. Upstairs, RM. 38, our hidden speakeasy, offers handcrafted cocktails and an intimate late-night escape.
